What is Micronkote 207?

Micronkote 207 is a grey, solvent-based dry film lubricant coating formulated with MoS2-based solid lubricants, organic binders and solvents. It is supplied as a liquid, applied by spray gun, and cured at 235 °C for 45 minutes to leave a durable dry film with a recommended thickness of 5-23 µm.

It is used to provide permanent lubrication on metal-to-metal contact surfaces where the use of conventional oil or grease lubrication is impractical or undesirable, or where contamination caused by oil or grease must be avoided. Micronkote 207 is part of the Micronkote dry film lubricant range.

The product is primarily designed for application on metal surfaces, particularly metal-to-metal friction pairs. It does not provide adequate adhesion on polymeric surfaces, so its use on plastic and other polymer-based surfaces is not recommended. How Dry Film Lubrication Works

1. Bonded solid film

MoS2-based solid lubricants are carried in organic binders and solvents. Cured at 235 °C for 45 minutes, the binder anchors them to the prepared substrate as a continuous grey film of 5-23 µm.

2. Low-friction sliding layer

MoS2-based solid lubrication reduces friction between metal surfaces and provides durable protection under high contact pressure and demanding wear conditions.

3. Corrosion barrier

The cured film helps protect metal surfaces against corrosion, with salt spray resistance of 48 h at Rating No. 9 (0.25 mm mean creep).

Surface Preparation and Application

Micronkote 207 is applied in three stages.

Surface Preparation

The sliding surfaces to be coated must be thoroughly cleaned and completely free from oil, grease, dust, dirt, rust, residues of previous coatings and other surface contaminants. After cleaning, allow the surfaces to dry completely before applying the coating. Proper surface cleaning and degreasing are essential for adequate coating adhesion and reliable service performance.

Product Preparation and Application

Mix the product thoroughly before application to ensure homogeneous dispersion of any settled solid lubricant components, and keep it homogeneous during application. Apply by spray gun to a continuous, uniform film over the surface, avoiding runs, sags and excessive build-up, and covering the entire functional surface. The recommended dry film thickness is 5-23 micrometres.

Curing

After application, cure the coated parts in an oven at 235 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes. Allow for the time the coated part needs to reach the target curing temperature, depending on its geometry and thermal mass.

Cure the coated parts in an oven for 45 minutes at 235 °C. Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned, dry and free from oil and grease before application. Recoating or additional surface treatment of the fully cured coating is not recommended; coated surfaces should preferably be left as the final functional surface.

Storage, Handling and Packaging

Storage temperature: +5 °C to +30 °C. Store the product in its unopened original packaging in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight and away from heat, sparks, open flames and other sources of ignition. Keep the container tightly closed, and close it immediately after use to prevent solvent loss and possible changes in product properties. During prolonged storage, settling of the solid lubricants may occur; mix the product thoroughly before use until a homogeneous consistency is achieved.
